UBP Deputy Secretary General Assist. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, who participated in the “Good Morning Cyprus” program prepared and presented by Serhat İncirli, emphasized that the UBP is not in a hurry to determine the Presidential candidate and said, “We will make the decision on how the process regarding the presidential candidacy will be and when we will announce our candidate in the authorized bodies of our party.”.
UBP Deputy Secretary General Ahmet Savaşan stated that today, political and social understandings that know how to share, are based on participation, are accountable, and replace “me” with “we” are rising values, and emphasized that everything in life is changing and therefore the political institution also needs to change.
“THE INSTITUTION OF POLITICS IS THE MIRROR OF SOCIETY”
Stating that the political institution, whose main purpose is to serve the society and at the same time constitutes a mirror of the society, has always been at the center of criticism, Savaşan said: “The political institution, which owes its existence and continuity to the people, cannot be independent from society. For this reason, the expectations, demands and needs of the society are also effective in determining the direction and structure of politics. It is natural that some of the demands from the society to the political institution and the behavior of politicians during the events they encounter bring moral debates.”.
“ONLY THE WREATH-LAYERS ARE CHANGING!”
Stating that there is a need for a change of mentality in the political institution in Northern Cyprus and that new politics cannot be produced with old habits, Savaşan said that he is tired of seeing that only the wreath-layers have changed in the country with the votes given by the Turkish Cypriot people.
“WE ARE WORKING HARD TO DEVELOP MODERN POLICIES”
Stating that committees related to all areas of life have started to work in the UBP and a special committee has been established to prepare a strategic plan to determine the targets for 2021, Savaşan said, “On the one hand, the UBP is trying to do its opposition duty in the most effective way in the parliament and other platforms with all its MPs and elected executives under the leadership of its chairman, while on the other hand, it is working with all its strength to develop modern policies in all areas needed such as economy, health, education, tourism, based on its old values.”.
